Nordic Jam
Welcome!
Northern Roots Session is an informal weekly gathering of musicians and friends who love to play acoustic music with roots in the north, particularly the nordic countries. Participants and listeners at all ages and levels of experience are always welcome. The musical environment is supportive, non-competitive, and generally very laid back.
Our weekly music jam session occurs on Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:00ish, at The Contented Cow, a friendly British-style pub that serves a wide range of beverages at 302B Division Street South in Northfield, MN. All ages are welcome.
Some members of our group occasionally perform at events around the community as Hutenanny. We generally donate our performance fees to local charities.
Our usual complement of instruments include but are not limited to:
- Fiddles, including regular fiddle, Norwegian hardanger fiddle, Swedish nyckelharpa (keyed) fiddle), viola
- Guitars, mandolins, banjos, autoharps, harpeleik (Norwegian chorded zither), bass
- Accordions, including various piano accordion, 2-row, 3-row and concertinas
- Recorder, tin whistle
- Voice
